Concept:Very strong |
Technical Skill:Average |
Impact/impression:Strong |
Pros:An odd and intriguing piece...I've no idea what's going on here and suspect that's the idea!
Cons:It's all a little muddy looking and because the background has the same colour value as the foreground it lacks depth.
The 'bucket'...???...on the guys head should sit lower...at the moment it feels like it's hovering in place rather than being seated firmly. The guy's pose lacks weight...we can't feel the weight of his head on his hand...and he's very straight backed and static. Overall opinion/feedback:An unusual painting that i think most here will find hard to usefully critique...but it's certainly different and I applaud that.

perhaps i should've explained:
the adult represents the corporate world where it is all about technology and money, thus the buildings towards background lean to the right. He has come to the child for his teachings ( usually we associate children with innocence and purity, there fore the tree is on the left)
the adult has come to learn that it is immoral to do anything just for money and discovers his interest in something else(art, bucket on head, paintbrushes on back); Instead of living for the business world and doing anything just for the profits, he realizes his real interest is in the artistic world.
The child directs and teaches the adult where to place his next chess piece.
Sometimes we need a child's teachings to lift the blindfold to our true selves.

You've attempted to illustrate some very complex issues and ideas here; Of course whether anyone would get the meaning without the description is, in my opinion, unlikely. Does that matter?....Normally I would say yes it does, I beleive that if we are trying to communicate an idea then we should use a visual language that all can read...however...In some cases, this being one of them, an unclear, complex idea can sometimes lead to an interesting piece of art, the appreciation of which doesn't actually depend on the veiwer fully understanding the artists intent...lol...That's a wordy way of saying it 'don't matter I didn't get it...it's still an interesting piece!'
Best of luck for future projects!
